The move to air a U.S.-produced show on Univisions primetime is a big shift for theTelevisaUnivisionnetwork, which has mostly devoted its nightly programming to telenovelas produced in Mexico.
However, its not the first time that the Spanish-language online grid has used its 10 p.m. timeslot for content other than telenovelas.
Before TelemundosLa Reina del Surcaptivated audiences in that timeslot back in 2011, giving their rival online grid a headache and forcing them to counter-program with grittier telenovelas, Univision aired various shows in the 10 p.m. hour.
The 10 p.m. timeslot aired weekly shows like a primetime edition of Cristina Saraleguis eponymous talk show,Sabado GiganteshostDon Francisco Presentalate-night show, and investigative showAqui y Ahora, among many others.
Univision is currently airing the telenovela titledEl Precio de Amarte, which consists of 50 episodes and is set to wrap at the beginning of 2025.
