‘The Recruit’: Noah Centineo as Owen HendricksCourtesy of Netflix

Alex Sorosky helped us get in contact with Sub Force, which is the American Submarine Force.

They gave us some subs, which was incredible.

I didnt get to go on a sub the movie magic, they shot it later.

‘Warfare’ movie review

The Recruit. (L to R) Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks, Teo Yoo as Jang Kyun Kim in Episode 206

(laughs) Sorry, maybe Im ruining the magic of it!

I think thats where the smile comes from.

Hes just overwhelmed with the fact that he pulled off a mission.

So I think that moment for him is quite euphoric and overwhelming.

And then he realizes, this cant really be the end.

DEADLINE:You mentioned that Owen came up on top for the first time.

How do you think that will change him?

CENTINEO: I think so, I think thats not going to change.

DEADLINE: The Recruitis a very condensed show.

How is it telling a story almost in real time?

CENTINEO: I find it to be cool and interesting, and it moves quickly.

Was it more challenging to pack all the action and do a full season in six episodes?

CENTINEO: No, I liked it.

I like it when shows are propulsive and they move, I felt it was fantastic for our show.

I like when things really go far in an episode.

That was cool, seeing them have a knife fight.

I didnt think wed be on a nuclear sub, thats for sure.

DEADLINE:Speaking of fighting, can you tell me how a lawyer like Owen can fight like that?

Did he undergo some training?

Because in the second season, he took on professional killers, and defeated them all.

How do you explain that?

He promised his mom that he wouldnt put himself in dangerous circumstances.

He felt this responsibility, almost, to honor that.

And so thats why, when all of this starts to happen, he is somewhat equipped for it.

He also gets very lucky.

DEADLINE:Owens evolution as a person.

It was a milestone in the first season when he killed someone for the first time.

Now hes killed multiple people.

How has that changed him?

Is he now more hardened, do those deaths not affect him anymore?

Yes, he is more hardened, it hurts though when he is responsible for a death.

I think hes constantly trying to maintain his humanity.

And in a world that seems to have none, that ambivalence is his burden to bear.

Yes, he was protecting her, but he also showed a dark side of him I hadnt seen.

So he had to do that, and it was tough.

He realized he had to do it.

DEADLINE: Andwhat about Owens romantic life?

We talked about Hannah.

He had a nice romance in Korea but I dont know if that is something that can continue.

Is a relationship even an option with his job?

CENTINEO: If he was working normal office hours and not flying around the world, maybe.

CENTINEO: Subconsciously, I think it has to do with craving love to win, for sure.

There are a bunch of little things that come together to create an action.

And I think thats definitely one of them.

I think another one is Jang Kyun fighting for his wife.

I think its oriented in the right direction.

I think he cant really leave Jang Kyun behind, and its also his job.

She had a really lovely moment, I love that.

[Kaylah Zander] is a great actor, so prepared.

Do you think that he will learn his lesson or will he still be making impulsive decisions?

CENTINEO: I think hes full of impulsive decisions.

Hes fresh out of law school, so hes not a fully functioning adult yet.

DEADLINE:The rubber room scenes.

How was it for you as an actor to spend so much time in that empty space?

CENTINEO: It was fun, its cool.

I certainly am not comparing myself to whom Im about to talk about, by any means.

There was nothing, no other props, just the scarf.

I dont know why I did that, that doesnt work.

And sometimes things work, you just got to be willing to play.

DEADLINE: For you, what have been some of the highlights from Season 2?

Hes such a good actor, working with him is phenomenal.

And having Teo Yoo come in and just elevate everything.

DEADLINE:How was it filming in Korea?

Was it your first time, and what was the most challenging and fun thing to do there?

CENTINEO: First time.

Most challenging was adjusting to the time zone change.

The fun was filming, working with the crews there; great crews, worked super hard.

Im actually going to go back there later this year to film another one of our friends projects there.

I had an amazing time and want to spend more time there.
