The majority of the project was filmed on the Greek island of Hydra where the pair lived in the 1960s.

There, they joined legendary Australian novelists Charmian Clift (Anna Torv) and her husband George Johnston (Noah Taylor), and a bohemian group of writers, artists, poets.
