How did that help the reception process and what was that like?
The production groups on the TV side just been so incredibly supportive.
They have been amazing.
Weve done several events together.
I agree the better the book does, the better the TV show does.
They should support each other, and they have been incredible partners.
I know everything has just been amazing.
And you think, Whats a better word than that?, I dont know the better word.
Its like, were gonna get this done.
DEADLINE:How does your main character play nto the Hello Sunshine theme of womens stories?
How have you kind of stepped back and looked at it since January it?
ELSTON:I love this from my main career.
She would love this, she would eat this up and then shed probably steal you blind.
DEADLINE:Would you ever want to go back to YA?
Can you speak to like the power of the YA audience?
ELSTON:I love YA and my heart is always in YA.
I never say never to anything.
I never thought I would have written an adult book.
I dont shut the door on anything.
Im open to What is the story I want to tell, and what audience is that for?
[My next book] is adult and another thriller.
Yeah, it feels exciting.
And so Im kind of loving that.
Oh my gosh, thats so cool.
DEADLINE:Are there any updates you’re free to share on how the show is coming along?
ELSTON:I sent a text the other day.
I was like, Theres gonna be an interview.
What do I say?
Im also like Tell me information.
They say that hopefully there will be an announcement soon.
Ill be waiting as well.
I do know that they could not be more enthusiastic.
Theyre very behind the project.
I know they are working really hard to ensure it happens, and thats all I can ask for.
DEADLINE:Youre executive producing the adaptation what have you learned so far?
ELSTON:Its slow and then its fast, and then its slow and then its fast.
I am just, happy to be here.
DEADLINE:What do you hope makes it from your book into the adaptation?
Do you get that same feeling?
And I feel like you will.
DEADLINE:What would you say that feeling is?
ELSTON:Like shes bad, but you love her.
Thats what I want.
Like I shouldnt love her, but I love her.
So, just that feel of sometimes its good to be bad.
