This post contains details from Wednesdays episode ofAbbott Elementary.
The teachers, meanwhile, seem desperate to find a way to get her rehired.
DEADLINE: When did you find out about Ava getting fired, and how did you feel about it?
Abbott Elementary
And she said yes.
I know it wouldnt be just for the shock value of it.
I knew it would be done well, and so I was excited for the twist.
JAMES:I feel like its confirmed it then, and it also has been confirmed before.
Avas been hustling from her office since the first season.
Shes doing her crafts at the desk.
Shes got her closet now.
Shes always had different hustles going on.
She has her clothing line.
She is very upfront about what shes doing at all times.
I dont think that Season 1 Ava would have stepped up like that.
Barbara is been teaching for 30 years.
Shes never been suspended.
Thats a slight on her record.
Then all the other teachers except Melissa are brand new.
So she thought she was doing a good thing, not with those consequences, but things happen.
DEADLINE: Ultimately, the golf course scheme was her way of trying to help these kids.
It wasnt entirely selfish.
Do you think that her getting fired because of that was a blow to her ego?
JAMES:I dont think was a blow to her ego.
I think it was just surprising.
She was just like, Oh, thats not how I thought it would go.
I slipped up and told Crystal…and didnt think this through, and now Im being fired.
I think in her head its probably like, Ive been becoming too soft, and now Im slipping.
Im thinking about this man, Im thinking about my dad, and now look at me slipping.
Now Im fired and blurting things out.
Im not being myself, looking like that.
So, maybe is that a blow to her ego?
How do moments like that add depth to the character for you?
She knows whats happening.
She knows whats happening with the teachers.
She knows whats happening with the school.
We wont have a music program at all.
Thats her concern for the students.
Do you think she misses being at Abbott more than shes willing to let on?
Is it validating for her that the teachers seem to want her back too?
JAMES:Im gonna say yes, because thats how sitcoms are.
If it was like real life, I dont know if she cares that much.
I mean, cares?
Yes, but not enough to upend her life about it, to not go after her next thing.
Thats how I see her.
But the nice thing to say is, yeah, she does.
The same way she pulled up to get her stuff, she can see them at any time.
Shes about her money and whats next.
After her doing a great job, youve let her go.
Thats how I feel when Im playing her, and thats how I feel about the character.
DEADLINE: I guess Im just hoping she eventually finds her way back to Abbott.
JAMES:I know what youre leading to, but Im not going to tell you!
